The rescue dog situation in Bosnia
Bosnia has tens of thousands of stray dogs. There is no national spay/neuter programme, and public shelters are severely underfunded. Dogs in municipal shelters face overcrowding, disease, and in many cases euthanasia.
My Paws Bosnia (Moje Sape) is a private rescue shelter in Brcko, run by Vesna and her family since 2019. We rescue dogs from the streets and from public shelters, provide full veterinary care, and find them permanent homes across Europe. We have placed 5 dogs into families so far, and 12 more are currently waiting.
Why these dogs make great pets
Socialised and people-friendly
Our dogs live together at the shelter with daily human contact. They are used to people, other dogs, and in many cases children and cats. They are not feral animals.
Fully vetted before travel
Every dog is neutered/spayed, vaccinated (including rabies), dewormed, treated for parasites, microchipped, and issued a pet passport. Blood tests for brucellosis are available on request.
Temperament-assessed
Vesna knows every dog individually. She can tell you exactly how they behave with children, cats, other dogs, and strangers. We match dogs to families based on real daily observation, not guesswork.
Mixed breeds with fewer health problems
Our dogs are mixed breeds. Common mixes include Labrador, Shepherd, Spaniel-Setter, Retriever-Spitz, and Terrier crosses. Mixed breeds tend to have fewer inherited health issues and longer lifespans than purebreds.
