Adoption Guide

How to Adopt a Dog from Bosnia

There are currently 12 dogs at our shelter in Brcko, Bosnia waiting for families. Every dog is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and issued a pet passport before travel. Here is exactly how the process works.

Why adopt from Bosnia?

Bosnia has no nationwide spay/neuter programme. Stray dogs are routinely killed or left in underfunded public shelters. Our founder, Vesna, has been rescuing dogs from the streets and from these shelters since 2019. She runs a private shelter in Brcko where every dog receives veterinary care, socialisation, and a safe place to wait for a home.

These are not feral dogs. They are friendly, socialised animals that have been living with people and other dogs at the shelter. Many are puppies born at the shelter. Others are adults rescued from abandonment or from public kill shelters. All of them are healthy, vetted, and ready to travel.

We have already placed 5 dogs into homes across the UK, Belgium, Austria, and other European countries. Every single adoption has been successful.

Step-by-step adoption process

1

Browse and message us

Look through our available dogs. When you find one you connect with, send us a message on Facebook or WhatsApp. Tell us about your home, your experience with dogs, and which dog caught your eye.

2

Home check

We do a simple home check to make sure the dog will be safe and well cared for. In the UK, this is usually a video call. In Germany and Austria, it will most likely be an in-person visit. We are looking for secure fencing, adequate space, and a genuine commitment to the dog's wellbeing.

3

Approval and preparation

Once approved, we finalise the dog's veterinary work. This includes neutering/spaying (if not already done), rabies vaccination, deworming, parasite treatment, microchipping, and issuing the pet passport. Blood tests for brucellosis and other conditions are available on request.

4

Transport to your door

We arrange licensed pet transport from Bosnia directly to your home. The transporter is experienced, fully licensed, and takes rest stops along the way. You do not need to travel to Bosnia. From first message to arrival, the process typically takes 4 to 8 weeks.

Transport costs

There is no adoption fee. The only cost is transport, which covers the licensed transporter, fuel, ferry or road tolls, and border paperwork.

Destination Approximate cost
United Kingdom ~£500
Mainland Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Austria) €300–400
Switzerland CHF 500–550
